How many times did you hear as a kid “Don’t worry about those zits! You’ll grow out of it!”?
Well, that is one of the many myths surrounding body acne. Contrary to this, many adults continue to struggle with acne throughout their adult life.
Body acne is not confined to the usual spots on the face and neck. It can appear anywhere, including the shoulders, neck and back. This is because acne can be caused by sweat and tight fitting clothes.
It is important to remember that acne, regardless of location, is caused by a buildup of sebum, which normally keeps the skin’s surface moist. However, when this sebum comes in contact with dead skin cells, or dirt on the skins surface, blockage of the pores can occur. This blockage in turn is what causes acne.
Adults who exercise regularly in tight fitting clothing can be more prone to body acne outbreaks. This is because of the tight fitting clothing, which holds the sweat close to the body, resulting in the blockage we are trying to avoid. Simple steps, such as looser fitting workout attire, may be all there is to preventing an outbreak.
Always remember …
Prevention Is Best Cure For Acne
I remember many times when I was a kid being told “Don’t eat that chocolate! You will get pimples!” Now we find there is no bases for that statement, but it did keep me from those candy bars for a while. Don’t get me wrong, a healthy diet is still a must, not necessarily for acne control, but for many health reasons.
Some people suffer more severely from body acne than others, but there are steps that can be taken to help reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
For example, exfoliating the skin can have the biggest impact in the fight against body acne. There may some spots more difficult to reach, but perserverence will win out.
The skin on the back and legs is thicker than on the face so a five to 10 percent cream of benzoyl peroxide is usually able to be used in the fight against body acne without irritating the skin. In addition, these areas require exfoliating to remove dead skin cells, followed with a moisturizer to maintain the skin’s softness.
Avoid wearing tight clothing, especially when exercising and shower or take a bath soon after the work out to prevent the extra sweat from contributing to body acne.
As time goes on, we will discuss more preventative measures that can be taken to prevent or minimize any acne outbreaks you may have. I hope you visit this site often to keep up to date.
